Prayer, Gratitudes and Praises
The apostle encouraged us in Philippians to: "not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God." We will continue to have a regular time of prayer for the needs of the body. Instead of filling out a connect card at weekend services, please click here to submit prayer and praise requests.

We have a challenge before us. Our national crisis has disrupted our way of life and it may continue for a while. My greatest desire for our church is that this would be a time when we grow in our faith in Jesus rather than retreat. Our church routines have been interrupted, as we will no longer have worship services for a while. Therefore, we want to emphasize four rhythms of spiritual life while we wait.
they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength;
they shall mount up with wings like eagles;
they shall run and not be weary;
they shall walk and not faint.
Four areas of spiritual emphasis:
Beginning this Sunday, we will stream online worship services. On Sunday mornings at 10AM we will stream our worship services via Facebook Live (GraceBaptistVA) and on our YouTube channel (Grace Baptist Church - Woodbridge, Va). We encourage you to gather the entire family around your streaming device and watch it together. Each week, Zack will lead us in song and I will deliver a message.
Also, we encourage you to continue in your daily Bible reading and prayer. To help with this, each weekday, we will send out a devotion from the Psalms via email. The title of the devotional series is “God is on His Throne.”
This will be a way for our entire church to grow together as we pray and study.
We also desire that you would grow in your faith – knowledge, and practice. We will be offering online live training in areas such as how to study the Bible, preaching, and teaching and how to reach friends with the gospel. We may also offer other training as interests arise.
On Sunday mornings we will have a Preschool Story Time with Ms. Nancy at 9AM. She will lead an online preschool lesson and activity for preschoolers and their parents. Pastor Nolan will be doing training for our students on Wednesday afternoon at 5 PM on Instagram. Our desire is that families would grow together as they worship and talk about Jesus in the home.
There will be opportunities to serve as well. We will need help with checking on our Senior Adults. This will include service opportunities and phone calls (see below for more details).
There will most certainly be benevolence needs, as well, with jobs being lost. It is very important that we continue our generous giving, not only to support those who serve the church but also for other needs as they arise.
One of the most important things we ask the church to do is continue to meet in small groups. Fortunately, we have online ways to do this. Your Small Group Leader will be in touch with you over the next few days about how and when your group will continue to meet. If you are not part of a small group and would like to join one, please contact Pastor Kirk at . It is very important that we continue to connect as we weather this crisis together.
Other news and information:
Our Ministry Council met last night to consider changes to our Services and Ministry Activities. Based on guidance from Federal and State Officials we are closing our main campus now and for the foreseeable future. The office (8AM-4PM) and counseling center will remain open. We will provide more information if this situation changes.
Saturday Night Service
We are forming a special Facebook Group for those who worship and attend Small Groups on Saturday night. Please contact Cheryl Nester (at ) to join.
We will continue to use the News from Grace email to communicate with the church. We will also use our special webpage gracehome/coronavirus (link on the main page of our website) and Facebook to provide information and updates. You can contact the church via phone (703-670-5032) during office hours (8AM-4PM M-F) or by email at . You can also email any of the grace staff directly by going to this page on our website gracehome.org/staff/.
We will continue to have a regular time of prayer for the needs of the body. Instead of the connect card at weekend services, please use this page gracehome.org/prayers-and-
Opportunities for Service
We have Senior Adults and others in our church that may need extra help and support to get food, prescriptions, and other necessities and to avoid going out in public. We are looking to connect people who need assistance with those who are willing to help. If you need assistance or are willing to help others in this way, contact the church office or Dan Pophin at or 703-408-9495.
With schools out and some parents not having the telework option, there is a need for childcare at home. If you would like some help making a connection with a caregiver, Ms. Nancy has a list of people who might be able to help. Please contact her at if you would like this information.
Please continue to support our church with your gifts and offerings. Most of our gifts are given via check or cash given in person on the weekends. We continue to have obligations like our building loan, salaries, and utilities and expect to see increasing needs for things like benevolence. If you normally give in person, please consider one of the giving options described on this page of our website gracehome.org/giving.

We wanted to provide you a short update on the church response to the Coronavirus. Please keep in mind that this a rapidly changing situation and we will use several means of communication to keep you informed. We have set up a special webpage for this purpose where we will post the latest information as well as using email, and Facebook. Click here for the link.
As of Saturday, March 14, we plan to have our regular services, small groups, students and children's classes on Saturday night and Sunday morning. Other activities will be held on a case by case basis.
Our relationship with Jesus and the sure foundation of our trust in God and His faithfulness allows us as believers to respond to this difficult situation with hope and peace rather than with fear (2 Cor 1:3-5). Paul instructed believers to pray rather than be anxious (Phil 4:6-7). The Southern Baptist Convention has asked that churches pray about this situation and we want to encourage all of our body to join in prayer for these things:
1. Ask God, in His mercy, to stop this pandemic and save lives - not only in our communities but around the world, particularly in places that are unequipped medically to deal with the virus. (Isaiah 59:1-2)
2. Pray for government leaders - international, federal, state, and local - to have the wisdom to direct us in the best courses of action for prevention and care. (Romans 13:1–4)
3. Scripture says - teach us to number our days carefully so that we may develop wisdom in our hearts. Pray that the Lord will give us wisdom in this moment of fear as the foundations of what we know are shaken, that others would realize how fragile life is and how real eternity is, and they would see their need to turn to God. (Psalm 90:12)
4. Ask God to protect our missionaries and their families around the globe, using this global crisis to advance His Good News to the whole world. (Mark 16:15)
The Ministry Council will be meeting early next week to discuss the next steps for our church and we will let you know what is decided at that meeting. We have taken the following steps to prepare:
- Providing hand sanitizer in all of our buildings and classrooms
- Disinfecting tables, doorknobs, etc. prior to activities and services
- Discouraging our traditional handshakes and hugs in our worship service greeting times
- Not serving food or coffee in the corner
- Setting up a special page on our website to be used for communication
- Preparing options for continuing church worship and ministries if we need to temporarily stop meeting in our buildings
- Developing and implementing options for the essential functions of the church office to be done remotely
- Considering options for our small groups that meet on campus to continue meeting if our campus is closed.
Please continue to support our church with your gifts and offerings. We will continue to have obligations like our building loan, salaries, and utilities. If you are unable to attend our services, consider one of the giving options described on the giving page of our website. Click here for the link to that page.
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope. Romans 15:13
